TWENTY TWENTY FOUR.

Just a quick catch up. 2024 has had its share of ups and downs.

A superb Season at Poole Harbour, 4 haelthy chicks raised to fledging.

A weather affected season at Kielder, with significant losses.

Positive Season at both Glaslyn and Dyfi, Both raising 3 Chicks.

LM6 failed to return at Llyn Brenig, 372 stepped upto the plate.

Not a good Season North of the Border loosing Laddie at Lowes and Loch Garten failing to produce anything this year.

We could go on, However, Seems like a normal Season in the Osprey World.

2025 will bring much of the same Highs and Lows, Most of our established birds will return a couple of Old Timers may not.

Very soon we will start asking questions, will Maya return, Hope 30(05) makes it back for 1 more year, will Black 80 overtake his mum this Season? Only time will tell.

However, for me the highlights must include, The strength of our faceBook Group, the Camaraderie, the depth of Knowledge shared, the ambiance which allows people to feel safe, to ask questions and express views, safe in the knowledge that they will still be welcomed members of the group tomorrow. One of the lows has to be those few who use information as power, to bully and threaten. There appears to be History between people/Groups which has been allowed to persist/fester over many years. It is a shame that all the people who work so hard in the Osprey conservation community have to manage it, and it is a shame for any new members of the public who have come into Osprey watching in recent years, who do not know about it and for whom it can be at best confusing and at worst, sadly, spoil the support, enthusiasm and enjoyment that we all know these birds can bring. Please draw a line in the sand, that history now affects people who are interested in now not in past disagreements. I believe we all want the Best for Osprey conservation. So I call on all in the New Year to Share what can be shared, be inclusive and not exclusive and work with all for the benefit of our target species and not for personal gratification and glory.

I would like to take this opportunity of inviting ALL members of Osprey Conservation Groups to join UKOI and share their Knowledge and expertise with the group and in becoming a member see what we bring to the table in terms of Osprey Conservation. At the same time I acknowledge that most of the Facebook Groups are Private, However, Please be aware that UKOI believes in sharing information.

Lets look forward 2025, share information and all enjoy a shared passion. And Finally thanks to everyone involved in UK Osprey Conservation and to those actively involved in UKOI.
